The Building People is seeking a part-time Project Engineer with at least 5 years of experience to provide construction management and engineering support for several small to mid-size projects in the mid-west and northeast regions. Position will be located in Beltsville, MD, with anticipated travel to project locations as needed. Candidate must have an engineering degree from a school with at least one ABET-accredited program.
The successful candidate will be comfortable performing the following tasks:
Develop technical feasibility studies, design concepts, and parametric costs for proposed new major/minor construction, repair and maintenance, energy retrofit, and renovation projects.
Attend meetings with engineering and research staff.
Draft and edit statements of work for design, construction and construction administration tasks for execution with A-E firms.
Address all facets of facility planning, design and construction to include laboratory mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, life safety code considerations, energy and sustainability criteria, physical security, structural, site planning, etc.
Provide engineering support during bidding and design and construction phases
Develop feasibility studies for project initiation, including budget and scheduling requirements.
Assist the agency in negotiation with A-E and construction firms both prior to and after award.
Keep abreast of state-of-the-art facilities, systems, and equipment, and incorporates this knowledge in planning and design criteria for facilities construction.
Address energy and water conservation design criteria and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
Assist locations with the development of O&M strategies for the effective and efficient operation of agency assets.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD
Basic understanding of Trane Trace, eQuest, Carrier HAP, or similar modeling program
Must have five-years of experience in retro-commissioning of major facilities, with a focus on research laboratories.
A degree in engineering from a school with at least one ABET-accredited program, plus a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the field of engineering project management.
PE or EIT
