The Building People, LLC, has a position open for a full-time Construction Manager. The work to be performed under this contract will be performed in Beltsville, MD.
The Construction Manager will assist in providing a variety of engineering services which include the:
Children Nutrition Research Center located at Houston, TX
Southwest Watershed Research Lab at Tucson, AZ
BARC Building 307 Renovation
National lab of Ag and the Environment
Fort Detrick Weed Science Research Greenhous/Lab
US Agricultural Research Station at Salinas, CA.
These projects are a combination of design, major modernization and new construction valued at approximately $100M.
The successful Construction Manager will perform a variety of engineering functions for the programming/planning and development of the conceptual design/bridging documents for the projects identified above. Periodic travel to the project sites may be required.
The Construction Manager will:
Work directly with the Engineering Project Manager in Facilities Division and Architect-Engineering firm to develop the programming and bridging documents for the project. This work includes space programming for research operations, participating in a
design charrette and program document reviews, engineering support and calculations, cost estimating, review of engineering and programming documents, and participation in design review meetings. Interacts with engineering staff, contract specialists, contract
architects and engineers, and program scientists at the Locations and the Western Business Service Center regarding the development of programming and conceptual design documents.
Perform engineering support during the bidding phase of the identified projects.
Provide bidding support for the identified projects. The tasks include review of documents prior to issuing for proposals, answering questions from bidders/contractors, and participating in the technical review panel as a non-voting member.
Perform engineering support during the design/construction phase (as design-build or design-bid-build) of the identified projects. Periodic travel to the project site may be required.
Provide design and construction management support for the identified projects. The design tasks review of design submissions (design analysis, specifications and drawings), cost estimates, engineering calculations, code analysis, approvals by local authorities
and participation in design review meetings. The construction tasks include review of submittals and shop drawings, participation in construction progress meetings, monitoring contract schedules, evaluation and inspection of construction activities, evaluation
of contract change proposals, and commissioning activities. Interacts with engineering staff, contract specialists, contract architects and engineers, and program scientists for both design and construction activities.
Provide technical expertise in the evaluation and review for design submission for all Building and Facilities Projects.
Provide expertise in the evaluations of all associated documentation for the first phase of the two-phase award process for all Building and Facilities Projects.
A degreed engineer from an accredited engineering college is required, plus a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in design and construction of major facilities projects, with a focus on research laboratories.
