Description/Job Summary

The Building People, LLC, has a position open for an Onsite Architect which will support, full-time, an important federal client at its Suitland, Maryland facility.  The position assumes a leadership role in working with facility managers onsite, and collaborating with sub-contractors offsite, and in working with other designers, engineers, and managers in building iterative space planning and phasing plans to minimize disruptions to the facility and its occupants during on-going construction work.  This facility is considered “critical” for operations for the agency in question, and this position assumes demonstrated experience, high comfort level, and extraordinary competency in managing critical infrastructure.  Ideal candidates will have experience in the specialized field of maintenance, operation, repair, design, space planning or construction of mission critical data center facilities and the associated power and cooling infrastructures. Proven abilities in budgeting, scheduling and management of large construction projects.

  • Provide project and space management support to the Facilities Management Branch for operations and maintenance of mission critical, satellite command and data processing centers.
  • Must be able to develop scopes of work and cost proposals to support implementation of facility improvements and repairs.
  • Must have detailed knowledge and experience with facility space management systems, including modular system furniture, power, lighting, ventilation, fire suppression, data cable systems, and physical security hardware.
  • Shall conduct fact-finding reviews relating to space management issues presented by the tenants and shall independently develop solutions to resolve problems.
  • Shall have a working knowledge and experience with the General Services Administration project management processes and procedures both in Federal and leased spaces.
  • Shall provide oversight for facility renovations and upgrades and shall perform feasibility studies to identify solutions for remediating problems in facilities space allocation.
  • Must have well developed communication skills, including the ability to write grammatically correct technical documents, and must be able to work independently with minimal direction and/or daily guidance.
  • Must have good working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio, and superior working knowledge with AutoCAD and GSA conventions to maintain existing facility as-built drawings.
  • Must have experience mapping project coordination/logistics and coordinating work with tenants
  • Must have experience providing design services for space management reconfigurations.
  • Tracks and provides monthly material inventory.

Required Education

A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

Required Qualifications

  • 15 years of overall experience, and a minimum of five years of experience in mission critical facilities.
  • Must have well developed communication skills, including the ability to write grammatically correct technical documents.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal direction and/or daily guidance.
  • Must have superior working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and Project Management software.
